Variable balans 1000 by Varier is the original keeling chair with the unique pendulum/rocking runners that follows the natural body movement and promote active sitting. Varier keeling chair also promotes natural, upright posture alleviate tension from neck and shoulders if used correctly.
The original keeling chair was invented by three Norwegian designers, Oddvin Rykken, Peter Opsvik, and Professor Svein Gusrud in mid 1970’s.Now it is a part of Varier Active sitting collection called Variable balans designed by Peter Opsvik.
In comparison to ordinary knee chair; Proper use of Varier Variable balans kneeling chair requires periodic extension of the legs. It is perfectly suitable to always keep on leg extended, alternating to control your movement.
Forward tilting ergonomic seat pan rotates the hips forward, opens the angle between upper and lower body and decreases damaging compressive loads on the low back. Variable shin support (Knee pads) keep the body from sliding forward, part of the load is transferred to the shins, (not knees). Keeping one leg extended helps control motion. Alternately extending each leg periodically allows for extended sitting. This sitting position, similar to walking upright, frees the lungs and upper organs and allows for deeper breathing.
The Variable balans with backrest (wood only), optional backrest provides further support, if necessary.
